comedy

Has anyone noticed how much more comedy there is on tv as opposed to real serious issues.  How many more tv shows like David Letterman, or Cobert Report.  While I admit they are far more entertaining then the actual news, what kind of message does this send out to the public?  Is it fair just to make light of everything? Or do some things need to be heard and talked about seriously.  I wonder how many people read the paperor watch the news compared to how many people watch Jay Leno, or the Daily show.  I think the statistics would not be in favor of the ‘real’ news.

Anyways, just some thoughts!

Well, I would have to agree on the massive amount of comedy out there. It’s absurb, but really, there’s nothing wrong with relaxing and having a good laugh. At the same time though, I am the kind of person that prefers to watch the news, so I am sure that even though there are lots of great comedy shows out there, not everyone watches them.

There is a lot of comedy out there but I think this is because many news stories are being heard over and over again. Pretty much anything to do with George Bush is heard over and over again! The news story is stretched out so much that it becomes annoying to watch. How many times do we have to hear over again about some speech or some stupid thing the President has done again? No matter how many times we talk about something or how in depth the news goes the story is still the same. Plus what are these news organizations doing to help their headlines? I’m gonna guess probaly nothing. I also think that the States probaly puts a lot of comedy on the air to try and cover up what is happening in Iraq. If there is something exciting on the tv then it takes the pressure off the government.

I personally have not noticed that there is a lot of comedy out there, but then I dislike comedy–I always feel it is a waste of time because I feel that I have so much to accomplish (I’m 70 years) in my remaining years (however many they might be)! That is not to say that I do not enjoy a good laugh. After a day of classes and writing notes or assigned readings, then for sure I am ready for a comedy or an action movie or a good romance! I personally enjoy watching the News and responding to Your Turn when the opportunity occurs. I love Rex Murphy and his insights on important news items. I think that News is more important to my demographic than yours, and that’s OK.
